This week, I had the privilege of facilitating entrepreneurship and small business management training for 69 enthusiastic young entrepreneurs in Kassanda and Mityana districts.
While many of the participants are engaged in coffee, maize, and bean farming, I was inspired to meet young people who are also running salons, schools, and other small enterprises. Their diversity in business interests demonstrated the entrepreneurial spirit that is alive and growing in our rural communities.
What stood out most was their incredible thirst for knowledge. The participants were eager to learn practical ways of improving their businesses, increasing profitability, managing finances, and planning for sustainable growth. Their questions, contributions, and willingness to share experiences made every session highly interactive and rewarding.
Another remarkable aspect was the strong support system already existing within their communities through Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs). These groups provide more than financial support; they create platforms where members meet regularly, market their products and services to one another, share business experiences, and encourage continuous learning and growth.
As I listened to their stories, I was reminded that Uganda’s future lies in empowering young people with the right skills, knowledge, and networks. With their determination, resilience, and community spirit, these young entrepreneurs are not merely running small businesses—they are building pathways to economic transformation for their families and communities.
I leave Kassanda and Mityana encouraged and optimistic. The seeds of entrepreneurship have been planted, and with continued mentorship, collaboration, and access to opportunities, these businesses will continue to flourish.
The future of agribusiness is bright, and our youth are leading the way. 🌱
